Just created a git and when following the command line instructions I keep getting an authentication failure.

can you describe in more detail exactly when the authentication error occurs?
How did you generate the SSH key?

I think that was the problem, I hadn’t generated a public key yet.
I’m working on it & think I’m starting to figure it out.

we found and fixed an inaccuracy in your user configuration on the [git.opendesktop.org](http://git.opendesktop.org) host. Please try again with username / password. An ssh key is not necessary, but recommended.
